Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 28th Feb 1949.

Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council, held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday February 28th 1949 at 7.30 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Replies to Correspondence. Nomination of Parish Constables. Payment of accounts. To issue Precept upon the Rating Authority for General Expenses of the Parish Council. Circular re Parish Council Elections. Present:- Councillors A. J. Goodchild (Vice Chairman) in the Chair David Claydon. Albert Jas Goodchild Fred Williams and the Clerk.

Minutes The Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Telephone Kiosks. Ilmer & Owlswick The following letter was read from Senior Sales Superintendent Post Office Telephones:- Further to my representative's visit to you regarding the provision of telephone kiosks in the villages of Ilmer and Meadle, I regret to advise you that at the present time it is impossible to meet your request owing to a complete absence of spare lines to the relative exchange and it is unlikely that the position will improve for some time. Further, as the kiosks would not be self supporting, a guarantee of £4 per year would be required for a period of five years. I regret the inconvenience the delay may cause to the parishioners and assure you that the matter will receive attention immediately conditions allow.

Insertion of names of fallen 1939-1945 War & cleaning of War Memorial Longwick The Clerk reported that with reference to War Memorial Longwick, a list of the names to be inserted thereon, had been sent to the Excelsior Monumental Works Aylesbury, with a request that an Estimate for the necessary work of inserting the names and cleaning the Memorial be sent direct to Mr Wm A Walker.

Nomination of Parish Constables Proposed by Councillor Walker seconded by Councillor D. Claydon that the out going Parish Constables be re-nominated, namely:- Messrs Owen Goodchild and Fred Williams of Longwick. Harry Goodchild of Ilmer. Owen Tapping of Owlswick. and Ernest Thomas Rutland of Meadle. Carried.

Payment of accounts Proposed by Councillor F. Williams seconded by Councillor D. M. Walker. that the following accounts be passed for payment:- "Logonia" Premium on Clerks Bond 3/-d Commons Preservation Society Annual Subscription 10/6d. Robert Bailey One Quarters Salary as Clerk to December 25th 1948. £1/5/-. Carried

Precept for £10 for General Exes of the Council Proposed by Councillor D. Claydon seconded by Councillor F. Williams that a Precept for Ten Pounds for General Expenses of the Council, be issued upon the Rating Authority to become payable on the 24th June 1949. Carried

Election of Parish Councillors Circular A Circular from the Home Office relating to the new procedure for the Election of Parish Councillors was read to the meeting and discussed. W. J Harper March 29/49
