Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 12th Dec 1947.
Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Friday December 12th 1947 at 7 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. To consider application from Womens Institute Longwick re Bus Service. Naming of Council Houses. Payment of accounts. Consideration of unsatisfactory state of road at Ilmer. Present:- Councillors W. J. Harper (Chairman) D. M. Walker. D. Claydon H. W. Lewis. A. J. Goodchild. F. Williams E. J. Girling and the Clerk.
Minutes Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Bus Service for Longwick A letter was read from the Hon Secretary of the Longwick Womens Institute asking if a daily bus service could be procured. If something could be arranged to connect with surrounding towns it would be very helpful. After a discussion it was proposed by Councillor A. J. Goodchild seconded by Councillor D. M. Walker that the Clerk make application to the Oxford Bus Company to extend their service from Thame, and through Longwick to link up with the Thames Valley Buses at Princes Risborough. It would be a great convenience if three buses per day could be arranged to arrive at Princes Risborough at about 10 am 2 pm and 6 pm, and also to link up on the return journey from Princes Risborough with the Oxford Buses leaving from Thame for Oxford.
Naming of Council Houses Consideration was given to the naming of Council Houses in the Parish. Proposed by Councillor A. J. Goodchild seconded by Councillor Lewis that the recently erected Council Houses at Longwick be named Walnut Crescent. Carried.
Proposed by Councillor D. Claydon seconded by Councillor E. J. Girling, that the old Council Houses at Longwick be named Blenheim Close. Carried.
Proposed by Councillor E. J. Girling seconded by Councillor H. W. Lewis that the Council Houses at Meadle be named Bennells Close. Carried.
The foregoing names to be forwarded to the Housing Committee of the Wycombe R.D. Council for adoption.
Payment of accounts Proposed by Councillor F. Williams seconded by Councillor H. W. Lewis that the following accounts be passed for payment:- Messrs James Walker & Son. Repairs to foot bridge over stream on foot-path leading from Longwick to Owlswick £2/5/-d. Commons Preservation Society. Annual Subscription 10/6d. Robert Bailey. One Quarters Salary as Clerk to 25/12/47. £1/5/-. Carried.
Dangerous state of road at Ilmer It was decided to call the attention of the Divisional Highways Surveyor to the dangerous state of the road opposite Claridges Farm at Ilmer caused by subsidence due to laying of an Electric Cable. W. J Harper March 2 /48.
