Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 2nd Mar 1948.

Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Tuesday March 2nd 1948 at 7 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Replies to Correspondence. Letter re ploughing up of Bridle path from the bottom of Walnut Tree Lane to Ilmer. Nomination of Parish Constables. Payment of accounts. To issue Precept upon the Rating Authority for General Expenses of the Council. Consideration of the need for a road sign indicating dangerous bend in road near Red Lion. Lighting of Kiosk Longwick. Present:- Councillors W. J. Harper (Chairman) D. Claydon. A. J. Goodchild. F. Williams. E. J. Girling. H. W Lewis D. M. Walker and the Clerk.

Minutes Minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

Naming of Council Houses approved The Clerk Wycombe R.D. Council wrote saying that his Council's Housing and House Management Committee had now approved the names suggested by the Parish Council for the old and new Council Houses at Longwick and the two Council Houses at Meadle.

Subsidence in road Ilmer The Divisional Surveyor, Bucks County Council wrote informing the Council that the subsidence in the road near Claridges Farm Ilmer had been put into a safe condition.

Bus Service The General Manager City of Oxford Motor Services Ltd wrote informing the Parish Council that it was regretted under present circumstances he could not see his way clear to accede to the Councils request for a Bus Service between Longwick and Princes Risborough.

Bridle path Longwick to Ilmer Mr F. W. Barrett of Longwick wrote complaining that the Bridle path that leads from the Bottom of Walnut Tree Lane, Longwick to Ilmer had been ploughed up, about half way across. He wished to know where the public are supposed to walk?

The Clerk was instructed to reply to the effect that where a Public Footpath had been ploughed up in the course of cultivation of the land over which there was a foot-path, the Public had the right to traverse over where the original footpath was and thus tread out the footpath again.

Nominations of Parish Constables Proposed by Councillor Lewis seconded by Councillor Walker that the out going Parish Constables be re-nominated namely:- Messrs Owen Goodchild, Fred Williams, Harry Goodchild, Owen Tapping and Ernest Thomas Rutland. Carried

Accounts for Payment Proposed by Councillor Walker seconded by Councillor Goodchild that the following accounts be passed for payment:- Logonia Premium on Clerks Bond 3/-d Messrs Shaw & Sons Ltd Parish Meeting Notices 1/0½d. Carried

Precept for £10 Proposed by Councillor Williams seconded by Councillor Lewis that a Precept for Ten Pounds. (£10) for General Expenses of the Parish Council be issued upon the Rating Authority to become payable on June 24th 1948. Carried

Dangerous bend in road Longwick It was agreed that the attention of the Highways Surveyor be called to the danger which existed to traffic at the road bend approaching the Red Lion Longwick and to ask if a sign could be erected to warn motorists of the bend.

Lighting of Telephone Kiosk The Clerk was asked to communicate with the Telephone Authorities regarding their promise, [inserted: last March] to illuminate the Telephone Kiosk at Longwick, which had not yet been carried into effect, and to ask that the matter might be given immediate attention.

Date of Annual Parish Meeting It was agreed that the Annual Parish Meeting be held at the Schoolroom, Longwick on Wednesday March 31st 1948 at 8 pm to be followed by a meeting of the Parish Council. W. J. Harper 31/3/48.
