Provision of Trenches A letter was read from the Clerk of the Wycombe R.D. Council relating to the provision of trenches, in the event of an emergency arising. The Parish Council were invited to co-operate in the selection of suitable sites, the formation of squads of volunteers to undertake the
digging of the trenches, a survey of the tools available locally, and the nomination of a person to be in control of trench digging, as and when an emergency arose. After consideration of the letter, it was agreed that Councillor Girling should make a survey of suitable sites in the Meadle area, Councillor Harper, to survey Ilmer, and Councillors Goodchild and Pope to survey Longwick and report to a later meeting. Proposed by Councillor Girling, seconded by Councillor Harper, that Councillor H. S. Pope be nominated to be in control of trench digging operations. Carried
It was felt that the present time was not opportune for the formation of squads of volunteers, but that should an emergency arise, no difficulty would be experienced in getting the necessary labour for the digging of the trenches, also that sufficient tools would be available.
