Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 26th Feb 1940.

Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday February 26th 1940 at 6.15 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Correspondence. Consideration of communications from Footpaths Preservation Society re Foot-paths at Meadle. Nomination of Parish Constables. Payment of accounts. To fix date of Annual Parish Meeting. Present:- Councillors Wm A. Walker (Chairman), H. S. Pope, Fred Williams, Edward J. Girling, Herbert Wm Lewis and the Clerk.

Minutes Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed.

Parish Council Elections A letter was read from the Clerk of the Wycombe R.D. Council relating to Local Elections and Register of Electors (Temporary Provisions) Act 1939. Postponement of Parish Council Elections, stating that while the act is in force, no election of rural parish councillors is to be held, existing councillors remain in office and vacancies arising from resignation death or other causes are to be filled as soon as conveniently may be by election by the Council concerned.

Overgrowth near a Stile, Tiffens Lane The Asst Secretary Footpaths Preservation Society, wrote regarding overgrowth near a stile on the Tiffens Lane Road on the footpath leading to Meadle. Also enquiring if the Council regarded the footpath as Public, and if so, whether they would take steps to have the overgrowth trimmed back where necessary. It was left in the hands of Councillor Girling to have the overgrowth trimmed back. The Clerk to notify the Footpaths Preservation Society, that the footpath in question was a Public one, and also that the matter of overgrowth was receiving attention.

Stiles & Foot-paths Meadle A further communication was received from the Asst Secretary, Footpaths Preservation Society regarding

several stiles which were in a dilapidated condition on a foot path leading from a point at the corner of the road leading from Lower Icknield Way to Stockwell Lane, in an easterly direction. Also a stile near the brook which was broken, whilst on another path near by, the lawn of a newly laid out garden seemed to project over the course of the path. He enquired if the Council regarded these paths as being public and if steps could be taken to have the alleged causes of complaint remedied. It was agreed that the Clerk reply to the effect that the foot-paths were public ones. That the Stile near the Brook had already been attended to, and that there was no cause for complaint regarding the other stiles. With reference to the newly laid out lawn projecting over the course of the path, the Council would enquire into the matter.

Clerk to write to Mr. Mac Quarrie re alleged encroachment on Foot path Proposed by Councillor Pope seconded by Councillor Girling, that the Clerk write to Mr Hector MacQuarrie regarding the lawn alleged to be projecting over the foot path, enquiring by whose authority he was given permission to divert the said foot-path, if the facts stated were correct. Carried.

Parish Constables Proposed by Councillor Lewis seconded by Councillor Girling that the outgoing Parish Constables be re-nominated namely:- Messrs Owen Goodchild, Fred Williams, Charles Tucker, Ernest Thomas Rutland, and Harry Goodchild. Carried.

Payment of Accounts Proposed by Councillor Williams seconded by Councillor Girling that Cheques be drawn in payment of the following accounts:- Rupert East, Premium on Employers Liability Insurance 10/-d. "Logonia" Premium on Clerks Bond 3/-d. Commons Preservation

Society, Annual Subscription 10/6d. Robert Bailey, Three Quarters Salary as Clerk to 25/12/39 £3/15/-. Carried

Date of Annual Parish Meeting It was agreed that the Annual Parish Meeting be fixed for Monday March 18th 1940 at 6.30 pm at the Schoolroom, Longwick, to be followed by a meeting of the Parish Council. Wm A Walker
