Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 25th Apr 1938.

The Annual Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council was held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday April 25th 1938 at 8 pm. To appoint a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the ensuing year. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Correspondence. To appoint two representatives to serve on the Valuation Committee of the Wycombe R.D. Council for the ensuing year. Consideration of a letter from the Minister of Health re proposed sale of Parish Cottages, Ilmer. Consideration of Bar Lane Road, Longwick. Present:- Councillors Wm A. Walker (Chairman), H. S. Pope, Albert Jas Goodchild, Wm Joseph Harper, Fred Williams, Edward J. Girling, Herbert Wm Lewis and Mr Robert Bailey (Clerk).

Chairman Proposed by Councillor Girling seconded by Councillor Goodchild that Councillor Wm A. Walker be re-appointed Chairman for the ensuing year. Carried

Vice-Chairman Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Lewis that Councillor Herbert S. Pope be re-appointed Vice-Chairman for the ensuing year. Carried

Charity known as "Baptist Chapel" A reply was received from the Secretary Charity Commission relating to the Charity known as "Baptist Chapel" stating that in view of the local opposition to the appointment of the Baptist Union Corporation Limited, it is not proposed to proceed with the application to the Commissioners.

Speed Limit The County Surveyor wrote with reference to the application of the Parish asking for a speed limit restriction in Longwick Village, that the application would be placed before the Highways Committee of the County Council in due course. The Clerk to the Wycombe R.D. Council wrote informing

Direction signs on Public Foot paths the Council, that the County Council have authorised the County Highways Committee to accept responsibility for the provision and erection of direction signs of a standard pattern on Public Foot-paths, at the request of the Parish Councils. Upon a request being received by the County Surveyor, direction signs of a standard pattern will be supplied and erected at the cost of the County Council, reading simply "Public Foot-path" with a space beneath on which the Parish Council itself may, if it so desires, add particulars as to the place to which the foot-path leads. Any request for the provision of such direction signs must be addressed to the County Surveyor. Proposed by Councillor Pope seconded by Councillor Williams that applications be made to the County Surveyor for direction signs to be erected on all the Public foot-paths in the Parish. Carried

Representatives on Valuation Committee Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Girling that Councillors A. J. Goodchild and F. Williams be appointed as representatives to serve on the Valuation Committee of the Wycombe R.D. Council for the ensuing year. Carried

Parish Cottages & Land Ilmer A letter was received from the Minister of Health relating to the proposed sale of the Parish Cottages and land at Ilmer, giving instructions as to the procedure to be adopted, and asking to be furnished with a brief history of the property and how it came into the possession of the Parish Council and in whom it was originally vested. Forms on which to give the necessary information were enclosed with the letter. It was agreed that it be left in the hands of the Chairman and Clerk to supply the necessary information and that the Clerk arrange for an Advert to be

placed in the Bucks Herald and Bucks Free Press, inviting offers for the purchase of the property.

Bar Lane Road Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Pope that the attention of the County Surveyor be drawn to the danger which exists on the road known as "Bar Lane", leading from the Longwick Road to Owlswick, owing to the narrowness of the road in places and the open ditches. Carried. July 4th 1938 Wm A Walker
