Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 28th Mar 1938.

Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday March 28th 1938 at 7.30 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Correspondence. Consideration of any matters affecting the Parish Cottages at Ilmer. Payment of accounts. Present:- Councillors Wm A. Walker (Chairman), Herbert S. Pope, Albert Jas Goodchild, Wm Joseph Harper, Fred Williams, Edward John Girling, Herbert Wm Lewis and Mr Robert Bailey (Clerk).

Chief Warden Air Raid Precautions The Clerk reported that Mr John Nelmes was unwilling to act as Chief Warden in respect of Air Raid Precautions. Proposed by Councillor Goodchild seconded by Councillor Girling that the name of Mr Harold Graham Thomas of Long Mead, Longwick be submitted to the Wycombe R.D. Council Air Raid Precautions Committee, he having offered to act as Chief Warden for the Parish. Carried

Air Raid Warden Ilmer Proposed by Councillor Pope seconded by Councillor Fred Williams that Robert Harold Attenborough of Ilmer House be approached to ascertain if he would act as an Air Raid Warden in respect of Ilmer village. Carried

Conveyance of School Children A communication was received from the Secretary for Education informing the Council that as the Meadle, Owlswick and Stockwell Lane children live within the statutory distance which they may be required to walk to school, and as the distance to the nearest school is less than 2 1/2 miles he regretted a special bus could not be provided.

Proposed Scheme Monks Risborough Charities The Secretary to the Charity Commission wrote with reference to the proposed Scheme in respect of the Monks Risborough Charities, that subject to any observations which the Council may desire to offer, they the Commissioners propose to insert a provision in the Scheme requiring the Trustees to be persons residing in the ancient Parish of Monks Risborough, the area of Benefit of the Charities concerned. It was agreed that no objection be made to the proposal.

Parish Cottages Ilmer The following letter addressed to the Chairman of the Council was read:- Ilmer. 14th March 1938. Dear Sir, Regarding the demolition of the Cottages at Ilmer in one of which I now reside. I have been given to understand, that, after the Cottages are demolished, the ground on which they now stand will be sold. I wish to make an application to purchase with a view of erecting a bungalow. I shall be glad to hear from you after you have placed the matter before your Committee and given it your consideration. Yours faithfully. T. Matthews. The Clerk was instructed to reply stating that an opportunity would be afforded to her to make an offer for purchase. The Clerk reported that he had written to the Minister of Health to obtain his consent to the sale of the property and for any instructions which he might have to offer, regarding the disposal of the property.

Charity known as "Baptist Chapel" Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Pope that the Clerk communicate with the Secretary of the Charity Commission for information as to the action taken by them regarding the Trusteeship

of the Charity known as "Baptist Chapel" at Longwick. Carried

Payment of accounts Proposed by Councillor Girling seconded by Councillor Pope that Cheques be drawn in payment of the following accounts:- Robert Bailey, One Quarters Salary as Clerk to 25/3/38 £1/5/-. Postages (One year) 5/6d. Total Cheque £1/10/6. Correspondent Longwick C of E. School. Donation for use of Schoolroom for meetings of the Council (one year) 10/-d.
