Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Meeting on 7th May 1945.

A Parish Meeting was held in the Village Hall, Longwick, on Monday May 7th 1945 at 8 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. To consider what steps shall be taken regarding the observance of VE Day and Thanksgiving Sunday. Present:- Messrs Wm A. Walker (Chairman) H. S. Pope. F. Williams, H. W. Lewis. Albert Goodchild, Albert James Goodchild, W. Tucker Fred Bowler W. J. Harper A. T. Turner, Miss Walker. Mesdames T. Walker. - Bunker, - Thomas, A. J. Goodchild F. V. Williams, Revds J. Gower Williams, W. O. Connor and the Clerk.

Minutes The Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Observance of Thanksgiving Sunday. After a discussion Mr H. S. Pope proposed and Mr A. T. Turner seconded that a united service of Thanksgiving be held in the Village Hall on Sunday May 13th 1945 at 3 pm

Service in the Village Hall Parade and that a parade of all the various services and organisations be arranged prior to the service, also that the Revd W. O. Connor be asked to Officiate at the service. Carried

Observance of VE Day It was agreed that it be left to the various religious denominations to make their own arrangements for services in the various places of worship on VE Day.

Order of Service It was left in the hands of Revd W. O. Connor. A. T. Turner. Albert Goodchild S. J. Brown and Mrs F. V. Williams to arrange the order of service for Thanksgiving Sunday.

Organisation of Parade Proposed by Mr F. Williams seconded by Mr F. Bowler that Mr H. S. Pope be responsible for the organisation of the Parade and to make arrangements with the leaders of the various organisations. The Parade to be at 2.15 pm and to assemble near the Wesleyan Chapel at Longwick. If the weather was unfavourable the Parade to be abandoned.

Collection for British Red Cross Proposed by Mrs A. T. Turner seconded by Mr. F. Bowler that the Collection at the service be given to the British Red Cross. Carried
