Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Meeting on 19th Feb 1935.
PARISH MEETING JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS A Parish Meeting to consider making preparation for the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the reign of Their Majesties the King and Queen on May 6th 1935 was held in the Village Hall, Longwick on Tuesday February 19th 1935 at 7.30 pm. Mr. William. A. Walker (Chairman of the Parish Council) was in the Chair and a good number of Parishioners were present together with Robert Bailey (Clerk)
Minutes After the notice convening the meeting had been read, it was agreed that the Minutes of the last Parish Meeting be signed as a true record. The Chairman explained why the meeting had been called and stated he would like an expression of opinion as to whether the meeting desired any celebrations to be arranged and if so he would be pleased to receive any suggestions.
Jubilee to be celebrated Proposed by Mr Harold G. Thomas seconded by Mr A. T. Turner that this Parish celebrates the Silver Jubilee. Carried
Formation of a Committee Proposed by Mr L. L. Powys seconded by Miss E. M. Wootton that a Committee of twelve be formed to go into the matter with powers to co-opt. and carry out any arrangements which may be thought desirable. Carried
Committee elected The following were elected to constitute the Committee:- Messrs Wm A. Walker, H. G. Thomas, W. J. Harper, Eli Claydon, H. W Lewis, Bert Walker, Mesdames F. V. Williams, L. L. Powys, A. M. Brown, The Misses Jane Claydon, Mary Claydon and Ethel Williams.
Funds The question of whether the balance of the Children's Christmas Fund might be utilised towards a Tea for the children was raised by a Parishioner, and on the proposition of Mr A. T. Turner seconded by Mr O Goodchild it was agreed that it should not be utilised.
Suggestions The following suggestions were put forward for consideration by the Committee. A Luncheon for the older people from age 65. and upwards. A Tea for the children A United Service of Thanksgiving.
Financial support Questions were asked regarding Finance and it was suggested that the Public should be asked to give Subscriptions towards the cost of the celebrations.
Thanks for attendance & preliminary meeting of Committee There being no other business the Chairman thanked the Parishioners for their attendance and the Committee agreed to stay behind for the purpose of electing their Chairman & Secretary and to consider preliminary any arrangements.
