ANNUAL PARISH MEETING HELD IN LONGWICK VILLAGE HALL MONDAY 25TH MARCH 1968 8.0.

Present Cllrs Brock, Thomas, Leuw, & Tapping Absent Apologies for absence Cllrs Angus & Walker. Minutes Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed.

Playing Field Purchase Cllr Thomas opened the meeting with a report on his meeting with Mr James Walker. First the cost of the site. Cllr Thomas stated that Mr Walker would sell for the figure arrived at by the District Valuer, so the price could be below £500 per acre but in any case not above. Also Mr Walker was willing to go along with any scheme for payment, and that if planning permission was granted for building on the end of the site a roadway into the playing field would be provided from Walnut Tree Lane, thus solving the entrance problem. Cllr Thomas went on to say that the leaflets distributed to homes in the parish showed a support of 114 for and only 9 against, although some people were out or had mislaid them when the collection was made.

Raising Money. Joining the Risborough Sportsmen's Asse. seemed to be the favourite, aided by a draw, rummage sales, fetes, etc.

A suggestion of a 1d rate was not thought popular

To Buy or Not? A vote showed everyone in favour of a playing field, the proposal by Mr Jones seconded Mr Lane to go ahead and buy the land was unanimously carried. The question now was who would be responsible for such a large debt? Mr Cliff Howe did not think a trustee's committee a good idea as people get older, some leave the district, leaving the burden with one or two. General opinion thought The Parish Council the answer. Letters to clubs and organizations in the village asking for representatives to attend a further meeting in the school on April the 8th was carried Mr Jones, Mrs Jones, Mrs Bellingham, Mr Lane, Mr Taylor & Mr White were volunteers to collect money. Conclusions to go ahead with purchase, and an all out effort the first year to raise as near £1,000 as possible.

Meeting closed 9.40 pm Dorothy Brock 31/3/69.
