Parish Meeting Minutes - 15 Jan 1968
Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Meeting on 15th Jan 1968.
GENERAL PUBLIC MEETING HELD IN LONGWICK VILLAGE HALL MONDAY 15TH JANUARY 1968 at 7.30 P.M.
This meeting was called by the parish council in answer to the growing demand to provide a playing field for the village of Longwick. Although the meeting was not attended by as many parishioners as was hoped for some progress was made. Col Charlin the Hon Sec of the Bucks Playing Fields Assc was present and was very helpful in answering questions, and explaining grants etc. The meeting opened by a speech from the Chairman Mrs Dorothy Brock as to the purpose of the meeting whether the public would like a playing field with swings etc for small children or the larger project of a combined football & cricket field with a corner for the small children. Cllr Thomas replied stating that he thought it should be the cricket and football field and children's corner that should be pursued. This seemed to be the general feeling at the meeting. Cllr Thomas went on to say that Mr Walker had offered a site of 4½ acres behind the new school building which was considered to be ideal, other points he made were that although the village had at the moment a cricket & football field there were no reasons to stop Mr Walker the owner from taking back possession of this field leaving the village with nothing.
The cost was to be £500 an acre adding up to £2,500. Questions of roads for access were discussed and the need for car parking. The big question on everyone's lips was where are we going to get the money? Col Charlin was helpful here stating that the playing fields assc grant 50% of the cost. Now the point here is that although Mr Walker is asking £500 an acre is the district valuer going to agree that it is worth that much? getting to the point, the Playing Fields Assc only grant 50% of what the district valuer values the site at. For example if he thought it was only worth £300 an acre totalling £1,350 the 50% grant would be £675 leaving (if Mr Walker still asked for £500 an acre) somewhere in the region of £2000 to be raised by the village, on top there is costs of roads and car parks which Col Charlin stated are needed for Council plannery approval. Following a long discussion on how the money would be raised a proposal by Mrs Angus seconded by Cllr Thomas that the meeting should be deferred for a later date and sub Committee be formed to report back was carried. It was agreed to hold the meeting on March 25th in Longwick Village at 8.0 o'clock. A committee was formed comprising of the following. Cllr Thomas, Mr G. Harper, Mr Wood.
Mr Ian Walker, Mr White, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Alycon. Meeting closed 9.15 P.M. Dorothy Brock 25/3/68.
