Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 8th Aug 1949.

Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday August 8th 1949 at 7.30 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Replies to Correspondence. Payment of accounts. Consideration of issuing a Precept upon the Rating authority for General Expenses of the Parish Council Resignation of Clerk. Appointment of a Manager to Princes Risborough and Longwick C of E Schools. Flooding by road surface water of foot-path at Longwick. Present:- Councillors W. J. Harper. (Chairman). D. Claydon F. Williams. A. Ancliffe. D. M. Walker and the Clerk.

Minutes The Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Dangerous ditch at Ilmer It was reported that the piping in of the ditch near the Village Hall. Ilmer had now been completed by the Highway Authority.

Bus Service The Traffic Superintendent. Thames Valley Traction Co Ltd wrote re the request for Buses to continue through Longwick Village to Ilmer Turn. that the Company would shortly be considering the preparation of their time table for operation during the winter of 1949/50 and will have regard to the Councils suggestion at that time, although as far as they are aware there is no satisfactory turning point at the Ilmer end of Longwick Village. It might be helpful if you would be good enough to let us have your suggestions as to where the buses should turn. The Clerk was asked to reply stating that in the opinion of the Parish Council there would be sufficient room at the junction of Ilmer road with Thame Road for the Buses to turn. The Clerk was asked to communicate with the Highway authority to ask if they could arrange for

the hedges at Ilmer Turn to be lowered to allow a clear vision for traffic.

Association of Parish Councils Councillor Harper reported on the Third Annual General Meeting of the County of Buckingham Association of Parish Councils. It was agreed that the Council should continue their membership of the Association.

Payment of accounts Proposed by Councillor F. Williams seconded by Councillor Claydon that Cheques be drawn in payment of the following accounts:- Robert Bailey, One Quarters Salary as Clerk to 24/6/49 £1/5/- Audit Stamps 1947/48 a/c 5/- Audit Stamp 1948/49 a/c 5/- Total Cheque £1-15-0 Messrs Shaw & Sons Ltd. Financial Statements, Audit Notices etc. 17/10d. Harold R. East. Employers Liability Insurance 5/-d. Hon Secretary, County of Buckingham Association of Parish Councils Annual Subscription for year 1948/49 £1/10/- year 1949/50 £1-10-0. Carried

Precept for £20. (Twenty pounds). Proposed by Councillor A. Ancliffe seconded by Councillor D. M Walker that a Precept for £20 be issued upon the Rating Authority for General Expenses of the Council to become payable on November 1st 1949. Carried

Resignation of Clerk A letter was read from the Clerk dated 24th June 1949 and addressed to the Chairman, tendering his resignation to take effect at Sept 30th 1949. Proposed by Councillor D. M Walker seconded by Councillor F. Williams that the resignation be accepted with very sincere regrets. Carried Expressions of appreciation of the loyal and faithful services of the Clerk were made and sincere thanks were accorded to the Clerk for the very able ways in which he had carried out the duties during the past fifteen years.

Post of Clerk to be advertised Proposed by Councillor A. Ancliffe seconded by Councillor D. M Walker that the Clerk arrange for the post to be advertised in the Bucks Free Press for a period of two weeks, Salary to be £8 per annum. Applications to be sent to the Chairman not later than Sept 5th 1949. Carried

appointment of a Manager to Princes Risborough & Longwick C of E. Schools. A notification was received from the Princes Risborough Parish Council to the effect that they had appointed Mr. Fred Williams of Longwick to serve as a Manager to the Princes Risborough & Longwick Schools subject to confirmation by the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council. It was agreed that the appointment be confirmed.

Flooding of a foot-path at Longwick The Clerk was asked to communicate with the Highways Authority asking if they would arrange to have channels cut across the road side verge to the ditch near Longwick School to allow the water from the main road to drain into the ditch instead of running down the road and flooding the foot-path near the residence of Mrs Graham.
