Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 26th Apr 1948.

The Annual Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council was held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday April 26th 1948 at 8 pm. To appoint a Chairman and Vice-Chairman for the ensuing year. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. To appoint two Representatives to serve on the Rating and Valuation Committee of the Wycombe R.D.C. for the ensuing Year. Consideration of the following matters:- Letter re meeting of Wycombe District Association of Parish Councils. Letter from the [crossed out: remaining members] remaining members of the Longwick War Memorial Committee. Encroachment on the side of the Highway at Ilmer. Letter re agricultural Programme. Present:- Councillors:- W. J. Harper (Chairman) A. J. Goodchild, D. Claydon. F. Williams, E. J. Girling. H. W Lewis D. M Walker. and the Clerk.

Chairman Proposed by Councillor Lewis seconded by Councillor Walker that Councillor William Joseph Harper be re-appointed Chairman for the ensuing year. Carried

Vice-Chairman Proposed by Councillor Walker seconded by Councillor D. Claydon that Councillor Albert James Goodchild be re-appointed Vice Chairman for the ensuing year. Carried

Minutes The Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Representatives on Rating & Valuation Committee Proposed by Councillor Lewis seconded by Councillor Claydon that Councillors F. Williams and A. J. Goodchild be re-appointed to serve as Representatives on the Rating and Valuation Committee of the Wycombe R. D. C. for the ensuing year. Carried

Meeting Wycombe District Association of Parish Councils A letter was read inviting the Parish Council to send one or more delegates to a meeting to be held at the Council Chamber of the Wycombe R. D. Council on Wednesday 26th May 1948 at 7.30 pm in connection with the Wycombe District Association of Parish Councils. It was agreed that Councillors W J. Harper and D M. Walker should attend

the meeting. If Councillor Walker found it impossible to attend, Councillor Albert J. Goodchild agreed to go in her stead.

Agricultural Programme for Food production A letter was read from the County Agricultural Officer asking the Council to give some indication of their requirements over the next five or six years, of any acreage of land in connection with playing fields or recreation grounds, as loss of acreage will need to be taken into consideration in making estimates for food production for the future. The Clerk was instructed to reply no land would be required.

Acceptance of War Memorial at Longwick The following letter was received from the remaining members of Longwick War Memorial Committee:- Dear Sirs. The remaining members of the Longwick War Memorial Committee have decided that the time has come for the War Memorial to be handed over to a local Authority and ask the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council to accept it. We would like the names of the members of the forces who lost their lives in the 1939-1945 War to be added to those already there. If you will have this done Mr Wm A. Walker will pay for it. Yours faithfully. Wm A. Walker, David Claydon. Fred Williams, Members of the War Memorial Committee.

Names of the fallen 1939-45 War to be placed on the Memorial Proposed by Councillor Albert James Goodchild seconded by Councillor Edward John Girling, that this Council accepts on behalf of the Parish, the War Memorial at Longwick, and in doing so, undertakes to be responsible for its future maintenance.

Carried unanimously

It was agreed that arrangements be made for the names of the fallen from the Parish of Longwick-cum-Ilmer in the 1939-45 War to be placed on the Memorial. The Chairman agreed to obtain these from the Secretary of the British Legion and to verify them with the relatives of the fallen, in order

that their rank and full names might be correctly recorded.

Encroachment on road side verge at Ilmer It was agreed to draw the attention of the Divisional Highways Surveyor to an encroachment on road side verge at Ilmer outside Claridges Farm, by the erection of barbed wire alongside of the road. W. J. Harper June 28 . 48.
