Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 24th Feb 1947.

Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday February 24th 1947 at 7 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Consideration of letters from Wycombe R.D. Council re:-

Land for emptying contents of Cesspools. Bye-laws as to cycling on footpaths. Dig for Plenty Campaign 1947. Nomination of Parish Constables. Payment of accounts. To issue Precept upon Rating Authority for General Expenses of the Council. To appoint a Trustee to Monks Risborough Charities. Lighting of Telephone Kiosk. Longwick. Unsatisfactory state of Ilmer Road. Present:- Councillors F. Williams (Chairman) W. J. Harper, D. Claydon D. M. Walker and the Clerk.

Minutes The Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Hedge on Housing Estate The Clerk Wycombe R.D. Council replied that their Council's Contractors have instructions to cut down the hedge on the Council's Housing Estate at Longwick to a height of approximately 3 feet from ground level.

Land on which to empty contents of Cesspools The Clerk Wycombe R.D. Council wrote enquiring if the Parish Council could assist in finding suitable land upon which the contents of cesspools can be emptied. It was decided to recommend the R.D. Council's Cleansing Officer to approach Mr Albert Jas Goodchild of Laurels Farm, Longwick, Mr Gordon McIntosh of Little Horsenden Farm, Mr. G. H. Wickham of Anderdon's Farm Longwick, Mr Claridge of Ilmer, and Messrs Wooster Bros of Meadle with a view of obtaining permission to use their land for the purpose.

Bye-Laws Cycling on Foot-paths A letter was read from Wycombe R.D. Council stating notifications had been received from the County Council that they are prepared to consider applications for the

extension of the existing bye-law prohibiting cycles on foot-paths to cover any such foot paths where it is considered desirable that cycling should be prohibited. They would like to know whether the Parish Council proposes to submit any applications in response to this invitation. It was agreed not to submit any applications.

"Dig for Plenty" Campaign A communication was received relating to "Dig for Plenty" Campaign 1947. The Council agreed to make the facts known as widely as possible.

Nomination of Parish Constables Proposed by Councillor Walker seconded by Councillor Claydon, that the out-going Parish Constables be re-nominated, namely:- Messrs Owen Goodchild, Fred Williams, Harry Goodchild, Owen Tapping and Ernest Thomas Rutland. Carried.

Payment of accounts Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Walker, that the following accounts be passed for payment:- Robert Bailey. Quarters Salary as Clerk to 25/12/46 £1/5/- "Logonia" Premium on Clerks Bond. 3/-d. Carried.

Precept for £10 General Expenses. Proposed by Councillor Walker seconded by Councillor Claydon, that a Precept for Ten Pounds, be issued upon the Rating Authority for General Expenses of the Council to become payable on June 24th 1947. Carried.

Appointment of Trustee. Monks Risborough Charities Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Claydon, that Mr. Owen Tapping be re-appointed as a Trustee of to Monks Risborough Charities. Carried.

Illumination of Telephone Kiosk Longwick The Clerk was asked to write to the Telephone Manager, Oxford asking for the Telephone Kiosk at Longwick to be illuminated at night.

Unsatisfactory state of Ilmer Road The unsatisfactory state of the Ilmer Road was discussed, and it was agreed that the Clerk communicate with the Divisional Highways Surveyor, asking him to take the necessary steps to have the road put into good order.

War Memorial Longwick The question of the future care of the War Memorial at Longwick was discussed, and it was agreed that if the Trustees desired the Parish Council to be responsible for it in the future, the Council would be willing for it to be formally handed over to them, on behalf of the Parish.
