Minutes of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council on 19th Oct 1936.
Meeting of the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council held in the Schoolroom, Longwick on Monday October 19th 1936 at 7 pm. To read and confirm Minutes of last meeting. Payment of accounts. Consideration of letter received re Electricity charges proposed to be made for connections to houses at Meadle. Consideration of making application to Wycombe R.D. Council for houses for aged persons in the Parish. Consideration of making a collection in the Parish for King George Memorial Fund. To nominate representatives of public Utility services for co-option on to the Aylesbury Area Committee for Air Raid Precautions. Present:- Messrs Wm A. Walker (Chairman) H. S. Pope. W. J. Harper. A. Minutes Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed.
Council Houses The Clerk to the Wycombe R.D. Council wrote with reference to the Councils application for Council Houses stating that the matter was receiving the attention of the Housing Committee.
Dangerous corners Bar Lane & Ilmer Turn The Divisional Highways Surveyor, replied re dangerous corners at Bar Lane and Ilmer turn, stating these matters would receive attention. It was reported that Mr Goodchild of Ilmer had not yet inserted the stiles in his fences across the public footpaths at Ilmer as promised.
Affiliation with Commons & Footpaths Preservation Society Proposed by Councillor Williams seconded by Councillor Girling that this Council become affiliated with the Commons and Footpaths Preservation Society, to enable Legal assistance to be obtained respecting any rights of way in the Parish. Carried
Payment of Accounts Proposed by Councillor H. S. Pope seconded by Councillor F. Williams that Cheques be drawn in payment of the following accounts: Messrs Parrott & Coales, Fire Insurance on Parish Cottages 15/-d. James Walker & Son Making & fixing Parish Notice Board at Meadle 15/-d. Robert Bailey, One Quarters Salary as Clerk to 29th Sept 1936 £1/5/- Commons Preservation Society. Annual Subscription 10/6d. Carried
Electricity Charges at Meadle A letter was read from Messrs. E. T. Rutland and A. Keen of Meadle, stating that they had erected two Bungalows at Meadle which were wired ready for Electric Light, but on application to the Aylesbury Borough Electricity Corporation for a supply they were informed that a charge of £10 for poles would be made and they must also guarantee £10 per house per annum for current. This they felt was an outrageous charge as the supply was not far distant, and they asked the Parish Council to take up the matter on their behalf as they were desirous of having the supply in the Autumn. Proposed by Councillor H. Rogers seconded by Councillor Girling, that the Clerk take up the matter with the Aylesbury Borough Corporation. Carried
Bungalows for Aged persons The question of applying to the Wycombe R.D. Council for Bungalows for aged persons to be erected in the Parish was considered. Proposed by Councillor H. S. Pope seconded by Councillor Williams that an application be made for six Bungalows to be erected. Carried
Collection for National Memorial to His late Majesty King George V A letter was received from the Clerk to the Wycombe R.D. Council asking for the co-operation of the Parish Council in making a house to house collection in the Parish for the National Memorial to His late Majesty
King George V. After consideration, it was agreed that the Clerk arrange for a sufficient number of collecting envelopes to be printed, relating to the Memorial, for distribution to each house in the Parish. The Chairman agreed to arrange for Collectors to deliver the envelopes and to make the necessary collection.
Representatives on Area Committee for Air Raid Precautions A letter was received from the Town Clerk, Borough of Aylesbury relating to Air Raid Precautions, and asking for names to be put forward by the Council, of persons or representatives of public utility bodies for co-option on to the Area Committee. Proposed by Councillor Rogers seconded by Councillor Williams that the following names be put forward for co-option on to the Area Committee, Messrs G. B. Gomme and W. J. Harper of Longwick and Harry Ives of Meadle. Carried
Coronation of King Edward VIII The question of calling a Parish Meeting to arrange for celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty King Edward VIII was deferred for consideration at the next meeting.
Foot-path It was agreed that an inspection of a foot path which needed attention should be made and considered at a later meeting. Decr 14th 1936 Wm A Walker
