Bus Service for Longwick A letter was received from the City of Oxford Motor Services Ltd acknowledging the receipt of the Councils letter re Bus service for Longwick and enclosing a copy of letter sent to the Traffic Commissioners for the East Midland Traffic Area which read as follows:- The Traffic Commissioners for the East Midland Traffic Area, Grosvenor House, Friar Lane, Nottingham. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 5th October 1934 together with copy of letter received from the Hon. Secretary of the National Federation of Women's Institutes Longwick. For your information, in 1932 a daily service was run between Thame and Aylesbury by the Premier Line Company, which included 5 double journeys per day. The number of miles run for the year was 83,720, and the receipts amounted to £657/8/8 and the pence per mile .18d. There has never been a demand from Longwick for
a daily service, and should another be attempted we feel sure that it would meet with the same results as the one mentioned above. When this service was discontinued we resumed our original service between Thame and Princes Risborough on Tuesdays to cater for those people who wish to attend Thame Market. This service is also run at a loss, the average receipts being 7.10d per mile. We would suggest that this village could be better served by the operators running a daily service in the Princes Risborough area. Yours faithfully. R. F. Dixon General Manager.
A letter was also received from the President of the Longwick Women Institute to the effect that a communication had been received from Mr Surman of Chinnor stating that he had received instructions from the Eastern Area Traffic Commissioners to provide a daily bus service for Longwick, and asking at what time it would be most convenient to run the Buses. It had not been possible to hold a Women's Institute Meeting to discuss the subject but she gathered that a morning bus reaching Risborough Station at 9 am would be popular, returning at 10.30 or 11 am and an early afternoon bus at about 2.30 pm returning about 4 pm. She did not know whether it would be possible to take more passengers by running one bus via the Kimble road to serve Owlswick & Meadle and she did not gather from Mr Surman whether he only proposed to supply a Longwick - Risborough service or whether it would be continued through to Thame. The women be very grateful if the Council would
consider the matter, and let the Institute Secretary know the result, and she would then write to Mr Surman to make the necessary arrangements. After a discussion, it was proposed by Councillor Tubb seconded by Councillor Williams, that two members of the Council together with representatives from the Longwick Women's Institute meet Mr Surman to discuss the matter and to arrange a Time table. Carried Councillors Wm A Walker and Herbert Sidney Pope were appointed as representatives from the Council to act with representatives from the Longwick Women's Institute to meet Mr Surman.
Demolition of Parish Cottages at Ilmer The Clerk to the Wycombe R.D. Council gave Notice of the Time and Place at which the question of making a Demolition Order under Section 19 of the Housing Act 1930, in respect of the Parish Cottages at Ilmer would be considered. After due consideration, it was proposed by Councillor Pope seconded by Councillor Williams that the Clerk should reply, stating the Council had no evidence to offer as to why a Demolition Order should not be made. Carried
Provisional Order for extending limits of Water Supply in the Parish A communication was received from Messrs Sherwood & Co. Solicitors to the Rural Districts Water Co Ltd stating that they were applying to the Minister of Health for a Provisional Order for the purposes, inter-alia, of constructing additional water works and extending the limits of supply so as to include a part of the parish of Longwick-cum-Ilmer and asking the Council to pass a resolution consenting thereto. Proposed by Councillor Harper seconded by Councillor Pope : That this Council pursuant to Section 4
of the Gas and Water Works Facilities Act. 1870 hereby consent to the application by the Rural Districts Water Company Limited under the said Act to the Minister of Health on or before the 22nd day of December 1934 for a Provisional Order empowering the said Company (inter-alia) to construct additional water works and to extend their limits of supply to include a part of the Parish of Longwick-cum-Ilmer in the rural district of Wycombe in the county of Buckingham. Carried
Postal arrangements in the Parish The question of the existing Postal arrangements in the Parish was brought forward and the Clerk reported that he had been asked by the Princes Risborough Parish Council if the Longwick-cum-Ilmer Parish Council would support them in a protest they had made to the Postmaster General against the adding of 'Aylesbury' to the Postal address of Princes Risborough and the surrounding Hamlets. After some discussion it was proposed by the Chairman seconded by Councillor Williams that a protest be made to the Postmaster General against the adding of Aylesbury to the postal address on the grounds that it was leading to serious confusion amongst business firms, who in the first instance were despatching their goods to Aylesbury instead of Princes Risborough thus causing considerable delay, also to point out that letters from the North of England were now received 12 hours later in Longwick, than under the old arrangements. Carried.
Payment of account Proposed by Councillor Tubb seconded by Councillor Pope that a Cheque be drawn for £1/11/10 in payment of Rates on Parish Cottages. Ilmer for half year ending March 31st 1935. Carried Feby 4th 1935 Wm A Walker
